Making a Difference by Design
Judy Biberian (left) and Georgia Chronopoulis (right) of JRI Interior Design know a thing or two about balancing functional needs with the aesthetic comforts of home.
With decades of design experience and a niche in senior living, Judy and Georgia are the women behind the interior design at many of the Encore Senior Living communities that older adults are proud to call “home.”
Judy and Georgia’s latest creation is The Courtyard at Delta, West Lansing’s newest assisted living and memory care community, currently under construction at 350 South Marketplace Blvd., in Lansing, tucked just behind The Marketplace at Delta Township.
“Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of Courtyard residents and their families and to bring a smile to their faces through outstanding, beautiful, and comfortable design,” says Judy.
Rest assured; there will be much to smile about at the new Courtyard at Delta!
Fresh Air and Beautiful Views
First and foremost, as the community’s name implies, the private residences and amenities surround two beautiful, large courtyard gardens, so residents and their guests are always close to the great outdoors.
Building upon the natural views, Judy says, “The color palette of the interiors complements the warm greens of nature with accents of blues, warm golds, and rusts.”
Georgia adds, “There is plenty of seating in the community’s signature courtyards and along the walking paths for residents and their guests to enjoy the garden views or an al fresco conversation with a friend.”
In addition to preserving continuity with nature, Judy and Georgia strive to make their design and color choices significant and meaningful throughout the community.
Variety Adds a Little Spice to Life
“We want to produce ‘destinations’ so each space is individualized and offers the residents intentional and well-integrated variety, not monotony,” says Judy.
Georgia explains, “Our goal is to portray an aesthetic that supports each space’s function. This offers residents options that reflect their mood.” For example, “bright colors and patterns may promote more social behavior, and darker colors and heavy textures may promote more self-reflection or reading.”
In addition to these design insights and strategies, Judy and Georgia offer a few “tricks of the trade” that can make a big design impact.
One example of this “big impact” approach is when the duo chooses to mix different fabrics within a room, even on the fronts and backs of the same piece of furniture, to break up the space and add interest.
“We strive to implement a variety of finishes, furniture, and artwork in hopes that there is something special from an interior design perspective for everyone,” says Judy.
